What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file stored in your browser by a website. Cookies can be used for many purposes: keeping you logged in (session cookies), remembering your preferences (functional cookies), measuring traffic (analytics cookies), or tracking your behaviour across sites for advertising (profiling cookies).
Under the EU ePrivacy Directive (and Italian Legislative Decree 69/2012), cookies that are not strictly necessary for the service require your explicit prior consent.
Cookies we use today
None. Cyberscan does not set any first-party cookies. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party tracking script. No consent banner is required at this time because there is nothing to consent to.
Third-party API requests
Email Breach and IP Lookup connect directly from your browser to XposedOrNot, IPWhois or IPAPI. The providers receive your connection IP; XposedOrNot also receives the email entered, and IP providers receive any address you look up. Cyberscan servers do not receive these requests. The URL Scanner uses a separate server-side connection to VirusTotal. Each provider handles its own domain according to its policy.
What happens when we add features
If we ever introduce analytics (e.g. Plausible or Fathom — both privacy-friendly, cookieless tools), advertising, or any feature that sets cookies or uses persistent identifiers, we will update this page, display a clear consent banner before activating any non-essential tracking, and document every cookie below in a standard table format including name, purpose, type, and retention period.
Browser storage and page memory
The Cyberscan PWA uses browser cache storage for static assets. Email Breach may also keep an email and its result briefly in page memory to avoid duplicate lookups; IP Lookup keeps the displayed result while the page state is active. The app does not persist this temporary data outside the page session or send it to Cyberscan servers.
